Since its creation in 1996, VicBears has been a social club for same-sex attracted, masculine and down-to-earth men of all shapes, sizes and ages in Melbourne & Victoria. VicBears holds regular social gatherings on the 4th Saturday of every month at the Laird Hotel in Abbotsford and a number of non-bar events throughout the year including bowling, laser-tag, karaoke, pool parties, weekend getaways and relaxed Sunday lunches. The highlight of the VicBears calendar is Southern HiBearnation: a week long party in June that draws Bears from all over Australia, New Zealand and beyond.

To provide opportunities for men who identify as bears to meet and enjoy themselves. VicBears defines "Bear" as a gay man with a "masculine, down-to-earth attitude" - *not* as a particular body type or "look". The original ideal of the Bear movement was to be inclusive and to embrace men of all body types, and VicBears upholds that ideal.
To promote an awareness and an attitude of acceptance within the GLBTI community and the general community to our lifestyles and our contributions to the community.
To preserve the history, culture and traditions of VicBears, and the Australian Bear community.
